The Titans are an obscure group in the mythology of ancient Greece. It’s possible that they are part of the hidden history of Atlantis. There are possibilities that the story of the Titans deals with actual people, or with places. Without a doubt, some of the most influential of the Titan gods were these twelve Uranides; Oceanus, Iapetus, Cronus, Hyperion, Crius, Coeus, Tethys, Phoebe, Rhea, Themis, Mnemosyne and Theia.
These mighty Titans were a powerful race that ruled the world before the Olympians. Born of the first generation of Titans these twelve deities were descended from Gaea and Uranus who gave birth originally to six males and 6 females who would go onto rule in the Golden Age of men. Parts of the legend say that these twelve were 6 sets of twins. In the Western Sahara even today The Berbers have a higher prevalence in twins than elsewhere in the world.
The Titan’s defeat to rule
The twelve Titans arose to power at the defeat of their father Uranus to their brother Cronus. As for the details of how Cronus won was said that he plotted with his own mother and brothers against Uranus, castrating him and seizing Cosmos from Uranus. So was this a real battle between individuals, or a conflict between cities or even planets? I suspect this is the story of destruction of Atlantis and the welcoming of the current era.
During the reign, some of the Titans consorted with each other as brother and sister while some consorted with their cousins, nieces and nephews. Ultimately by having relationships amongst each other this would continue the line of Titans to give birth to a second generation of Titans.
The Olympians
Born of the first generation of Titans, Hyperion and Theia were second generation born Eos, Helios and Selene. Second generation Leto and Asteria were born of first generation Coeus and Phoebe. Oceanus and Tethys gave birth to Oceanids and Potamoi who were never really called Titans. However, Oceanid Clymene, the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, consorted with Iapetus in effort to continue with the next generation of Titans. She gave birth to Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus and Menoetius.
Crius and his half-sister Eurybia, the daughter of Gaea and Pontus, gave birth to Astraeus, Pallas and Perses. Eventually in time, Cronus and Rhea gave birth to much younger gods. These gods were most famous gods known as Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Hestia and Demeter. These younger gods in time would rebel against Cronus and his devout followers. They later defeated them in a 10 years war and this war was known as the Titanomachy. After this war they went on to call themselves pridefully the Olympian Gods. This was after their main home Mount Olympus and they became the new generation rulers of Cosmos.
Somewhere in this story is a history of truth. Did it describe people, places or events? Maybe a combination. This is going to form another aspect in our search for Atlantis. If we assume that the Titans represent colonies then there are probably at least 6 and possible 12 unique areas which represented Atlantean culture. I recently came back from Alaska and the Tlingot people have two clans – a Raven and an Eagle. You are either part of one or the other based on your mother. Ravens can only marry Eagles and vice versa.
If you were the survivors of an advanced civilization, you would spread out into groups. This would improve your survivability and you would enact similar rules to prevent inbreeding. Eventually your history becomes the tales of myths and legends. Now we just need to figure out what pieces are true.
